A simple definition of bravery is showing courageous behaviour in difficult times. Bravery also means standing up, confronting difficult things in life. Like in this story the protagonist stood up in the face of terror and killings. In “Number the Stars”, Annemarie Johansen is brave. This is because even though she is a ten year old child who is dealing with a lot at such a small age. The war-like situation has made her brave in a thoughtful way. Due to her father’s dedication to the country, she has realised that “bravery” is the greatest virtue. I would say that she is brave because even in difficult times she had the courage to dream freely. She keeps her love of running alive.
